Choir and Music

Christ Church has a proud and ambitious musical tradition. Music at our church ranges from congregational singing of hymns to Choral Eucharist and Choral Evensong. The robed choir, made up of children and adults, leads worship on Sundays at both morning (10am) and evening (6pm) services, and also at festival services throughout the year.

The choir sings music from the Anglican tradition as well as other European music and spirituals. Our repertoire includes music by Byrd, Tallis, Palestrina, Purcell, Mozart, Wesley, Stanford, Howells, Duruflé and contemporary composers – including members of the choir. In recent years the choir has sung services at Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Gloucester Cathedral and York Minster.

There are no auditions to join the choir and we are always keen to have new members – whether children or adults. The junior members of the choir work towards Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) awards to develop their musical understanding and we also run a programme of Choral and Organ Scholarships for young musicians. To find out more about joining the choir, or to receive the monthly Music List please email music.ccreading@gmail.com
