DEANERY OF READING . DIOCESE OF OXFORD

Choir & Music

Christ Church has a proud and ambitious musical tradition. Music includes congregational singing of hymns, and mass settings and anthems sung by the choir. The robed choir, made up of children and adults, leads worship on Sunday mornings during the 10am service and as part of Choral Evensong on Sundays at 6pm, and also at festival services throughout the year.

The choir sings music from the Anglican tradition as well as other European music and spirituals. Repertoire includes music by Byrd, Tallis, Palestrina, Purcell, Mozart, Wesley, Stanford, Howells, Duruflé and contemporary composers – including members of the choir.

Joining the choir

There are no auditions to join the choir and we are always keen to have new members – whether children or adults. The junior members of the choir work towards Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) awards to develop their musical understanding. Christ Church also runs a programme of Choral and Organ Scholarships to support and develop young musicians.
